The Celebration Residential Owners Association (CROA) held its monthly meeting on Tuesday, July 27th at 7 pm in the 851 Building on Celebration Avenue. Board members Alex Carius, Mike Gaw, Richard Joossens, Don McDonald, Jack McLaughlin, Dave Orosz, and Tom Touzin were present as were Lori Rockel and Pat Wasson.
A major topic covered during the meeting was a vote to approve a new film permission process for all commercials, films, and other forms of media utilizing public land in Celebration. After receiving numerous complaints regarding the shooting of the film “Homecoming” last year, the need for a streamlined filming permit for the town became apparent. Recently, Tom Sunnarborg, Secretary of the Celebration Community Development District (CCDD), created a plan to make filming in Celebration easier on both filmmakers and Celebration residents, which the CROA board approved. Approval of this measure will allow the new system to take effect in the near future.
A matter revisited from last month’s meeting was the degradation of the safety surfaces at the parks in East Village and on Longmeadow Street. In order to repair the damage at those parks, they will be closed from August 3rd until August 9th. Also discussed at the meeting was the upcoming addition of a cell tower on Celebration Boulevard, with Verizon Wireless being the only company expressing strong interest in utilizing the tower.
Other issues discussed at the meeting were: the ongoing graffiti-related incidents in town, the “Howloween” dog costume contest in October, the “Totally Tween” event coming in September, this year’s Fall Festival, an upcoming landscaping project at Lakeside, a joint-use agreement between Celebration and Celebration High School (which would allow residents to use the school’s athletic venues), and an upcoming design change for the Front Porch website. CROA’s next meeting will be held at 6:30 PM on Tuesday, August 24th at the 851 Celebration Avenue building. |

Summers at Walt Disney World are not just for out-of-state visitors on summer vacation. They are made for us local residents. After all, we can brave the heat better than those from any of the other 49 states, and probably most every other country too. We love the extended park hours and maximize use of them like no out-of-stater ever could. We know to bring bottles of water in to the park, buy the squirting fans at Wal-Mart or Target instead of in the parks, and to apply sunscreen before jumping in our cars to get to the park of our choice.
This summer, Walt Disney has spiced up our experience with “Summer Nightastic,” an experience that includes the Main Street Electrical Parade, a special Summer Nightastic fireworks spectacular also at the Magic Kingdom, Epcot’s Sounds of Summer, enhancements to the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, a Rock and Glow Dance Party at Hollywood Studios, as well as new extended hours for Animal Kingdom. These are all welcome variations for those of us who have seen and experienced so much already at the parks. Almost anything new gives us an excuse to return – sometimes multiple times. Of course, you all know I have to do this for the sake of my column and those who read it. |

Along with my golf instruction in the afternoon and evenings, I fill up my mornings and early afternoons working for Sheraton Vacation Ownership, a part of the Westin and Starwood Vacation Ownership Network. Starwood Vacation Ownership Web Site
As a PGA Professional and a long standing Sales Executive with Sheraton for many years, I am a pretty much the "go to guy" in the Starwood program and Orlando when it comes to golf and available programs and opportunities within Starwood. |
